Exhibition Introduction
La beauté du petit | The Beauty of the Small brings together 25 artists selected through a curatorial review of works and practices, spanning painting, artist’s books, installation, moving image, sculpture and mixed-media practice.
In an era shaped by grand narratives, accelerated information and increasingly spectacular forms of visual culture, the exhibition redirects attention towards the small, the everyday and the individual. It considers how overlooked details, fragments, memories and quiet emotional experiences can become meaningful sites of artistic enquiry.
Centred on small-scale and mixed-media visual practices, La beauté du petit presents works that emerge from close observation, personal memory and material sensitivity. A small painting, a wordless artist’s book, a short moving-image work, a sculptural object or an intimate installation may occupy relatively little physical space, yet each can create a concentrated encounter between artwork and viewer.
Rather than seeking to dominate the exhibition space, the works invite a slower mode of looking: to move closer, to attend to image, material and detail, and to consider how private experience can open towards wider forms of resonance and shared reflection.
Within this context, “small” is understood not simply as a question of physical scale, but as an artistic position. It offers an alternative to the speed and excess of contemporary image culture, allowing intimacy, attention and everyday experience to acquire renewed significance.
The selected works are organised through three interconnected sections — Peinture, Volume and Visuel — bringing different approaches to image, material, sequence, space and duration into dialogue.
La beauté du petit – Peinture
This section brings together small-scale paintings that explore intimacy through close observation, composition, colour and detail.
Working at a reduced scale encourages a slower and more concentrated mode of viewing, allowing subtle shifts in image, surface and gesture to become increasingly perceptible. Through these works, modest dimensions become a means of creating direct and personal encounters between viewer and image.

This section brings together small-scale artist’s books, installation, ceramics and mixed-media practices that explore how material, sequence and spatial presentation can shape intimate forms of viewing.
Through tactile surfaces, constructed objects, sequential imagery and close-scale presentation, the works invite viewers to engage physically and visually with detail, narrative and material presence. Here, modest scale becomes a way of concentrating attention, allowing personal and emotional meaning to unfold through proximity rather than spectacle.

This section presents moving-image and film works that approach the exhibition’s central concern with scale through both content and mode of display.
Presented through intimate viewing formats, the works create concentrated encounters in which narrative, duration, image and visual detail unfold through sustained attention. Here, the reduced scale of presentation becomes part of the viewing experience itself, encouraging proximity rather than spectacle.
